TMD Treatment in Sault Ste. Marie
What is TMD?
The temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) are the hinge joints that connect the jaw bone to the temporal bones of the skull. Located on either side of the head right by the ears, they let you move your jaw up and down and side to side so you can talk and chew.
Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) is a disorder of the joints in the jaw that may cause symptoms like jaw pain, severe headaches and ringing in the ears.
At Sault Family Dental, our dentists can test for, diagnose and treat TMJ Disorder.
Causes & Symptoms of TMD
A bad bite (the misalignment of the teeth and or jaw) is the most common cause of TMD.
A common symptom of the disorder is bruxism (teeth grinding during sleep). Over time, teeth grinding can erode the teeth and cause other severe dental issues. If left untreated, TMD can lead to loose teeth and eroded jawbones.
TMD symptoms can worsen during times of stress and intense outbreaks may cause symptoms such as dizziness and neck pain.
